We are in shock over the horrific incident that unfolded during Shabbat services in Pennsylvania this morning, resulting in many lost lives, shattered families, and traumatized communities. Our condolences and prayers go out to the members of the Tree of Life synagogue and the community of Pittsburgh - they and we should know of no further tragedies.

What We Are Doing To Ensure Your Safety

  • We are in constant communication with our local law enforcement. This morning, on-site officer learned of the shooting during services and immediately tightened our security. This evening, MCPD reached out to us to offer condolences and support. We are grateful for our relationship with our partners at MCPD who go above and beyond to keep us safe.
  • We will continue to have officers on-site during Shabbat and holiday services.
  • Updates to our security cameras and access control systems are complete, thanks to to the Homeland Security grant we received last year. We will continue to refine and upgrade our security equipment and procedures.
  • See Something Say Something - if you notice something around our campus that doesn't look right, alert someone so that we may partner together in our own security.

Community Response

  • HTAA is Co-Sponsoring a Community Interfaith Service and Solidarity Gathering at Adas Israel Congregation, Monday evening at 6:30pm. See www.jcouncil.org/solidarity for more information.

Counseling & Pastoral Support

  • Please use me as a resource if for pastoral support. I am always happy to carve out time during the week to spend with our members 1 on 1. Send me an email or give me a call and we'll set up a time to get together.
  • The Jewish Social Service Agency offers support helping individuals and communities cope with traumatic events. Please contact JSSA if you would like to inquire about counseling for yourself or your family at (301) 816-2633.

With blessings for healing, strength, and courage for our local local and and extended families,

Rabbi Steven Suson
