Dear Friends,

This Shabbat we are responding to the worst act of anti-Semitism in North American history with our greatest show of solidarity. A continental Solidarity Shabbat with the Jewish community of Pittsburgh. At synagogues, community centers and homes across North America, we will gather together in prayer and unity. We are one people, and we won’t be intimidated in our places of worship.

This Shabbat, we will welcome Manny Mandel as our speaker. Manny grew up at HTAA, after escaping the Nazis as part of “Kaszner’s Train,” which carried 1676 Hungarian Jews to freedom. His story is tragic and inspiring.

Next week marks the 80th anniversary of Kristalnacht, when a wave of anti-Semitic violence broke out in Germany and Austria. The tragic events in Pittsburgh are a reminder that even today, anti-Semitism exists.

But this Shabbat will be a reminder of the power of community in bringing people together. Jews and non-Jews, religious and secular, people from all walks of life, clergy from every religious sector, and political leaders from across the spectrum are uniting with us for Solidarity Shabbat, which will be taking place across the continent.

Our community is doing our part in this moment to show unity with the Pittsburgh Jewish community and to stand up against anti-Semitism everywhere.

Please stand with us. Join us for Solidarity Shabbat: We Stand With Pittsburgh.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Suson
