6:00 PM - 7:00 PMHTAA

Clare Lise Kelly, an architecture historian from the Montgomery Historic Preservation Commission, will be the guest speaker at Har Tzeon's Historical Shabbat dinner on Feb. 24. Kelly established an initiative we call Montgomery Modern, to raise awareness of the cultural value of our mid-century modern architecture. The Har Tzeon Synagogue of 1956, designed by Loewer, Sargent and Associates, is an excellent example. Through her study, Kelly has become an expert of the Jewish community in Montgomery County. Within the span of a few decades, she found that the Jewish population went from have a negligible number of Jews in the county to having the largest concentration in the DC area, and she is eager to tell the story. Kelly is the author of Montgomery Modern book, which tells some of the stories of the mid-century period. In recent months, she has uncovered additional information as she has been working on a paper on the topic of the Jewish community in the county.
